Federico Gutierrez achieved the official candidacy for center-right candidate with more that 1.7 million votes. The former mayor of Medellin won Barguil (Char) Penalosa, Barguil (Char), and Tab of los Cristianos.
Fico Gutierrez , who was born in Medellin in 1975, was a former mayor of Medellin. He is an elected Medellin Municipal Youth Councilor since 2003. Gutierrez, a Civil Engineer by trade from the University of Medellin, holds a Specialization degree in senior management from the Pontifical Bolivarian University and one in Political Science.
However, politics was not the sole thing that stood out in the career of Federico Gutierrez, as he was Consultant to the firm HGI Consultores and a Resident Engineer at the Company Vifasa S.A, a construction and glass company. In his private life, he defends his family and says that it is of paramount importance; he is married and has two children.
As a council member, Sergio Fajardo was his supporter. Later, Alonso Salazar was his. Fico Gutierrez changed his mind and became the Mayor’s Office of Medellin in the year 2015. Fico Gutierrez became the victim of corruption just like the other mayors in the Hidroituango Project. In addition, in an investigation conducted by Daniel Coronell, he was accused in the Panama papers for storing his cash in tax havens and for corruption.
He did meet with ex-mayors who he had a relationship with. He said recently that he was united “because I don’t think anyone makes a decision so that diversion tunnels fall and that one is in solidarity when some sectors are attacked by the political strategy”.
A new race for the presidency
In October 2021, the so-called Experience coalition was formed that eventually became known as the Team for Colombia. On several occasions the candidate has repeatedly stated that his administration model is based on public management of the people. He also stated that politics was a vocation. Fico Gutierrez came in second, but Fico was the most popular vote-getter. He will be Antioquia’s representative of the right.
