A legal advocacy group with its headquarters in Israel is calling on Australian survivors of the Holocaust and their descendants to sign up to its program to bring lawsuits against insurance companies whose Holocaust antecedents refused to pay out for policies held by displaced European Jews.

AJN stated that Project Last Chance will pursue insurance companies that employed World War II chaos and the Shoah as a way to avoid paying claims to survivors, victims and their descendants.

Shurat HaDin is leveraging its experience in the investigation of financial institutions such as banks that store the assets of terrorist organisations.
“We have initiated legal proceedings against banks, governments, and corporations that are involved in aiding or abetting terrorist acts. We have the skills and don’t hesitate to go after large banks, nations as well as multinational corporations” she said.
Shurat Haidin is also launching legal proceedings against Israel to get access to the list of 140,000 Holocaust survivors/descended – who have declared around two million assets as part of Israel’s Project Heart. The Israeli government, working with the Jewish Agency for Israel, invited applicants into the restitution program, but the program was abruptly shut down and the participants who had signed up were left in limbo.

Israel’s Labour and Social Services Ministry stated the following: Project Heart was never meant to be an individual claim program, so claimants’ names cannot be released. One theory is that Israel underestimated European governments intransigence when faced with lists of claims ranging from hundreds upon thousands.
Shurat Hadin If their identities are made public to Shurat HaDin, the Project Heart participants could become participants in class actions initiated under Project Last Chance, Darshan-Leitner said.
