Whatever you could do, or dream to do, begin it!
The boldness has in itself genius, power and magic.
Let's begin now!
(Johann Wolfgang Goethe)

The event was the first Technical Conference for students, organized jointly by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and EESTEC (Electrical Engineering STudents' European assoCiation).

Topic of the conference was the "Engineering Education" and the Technical Program has seen the presentation of works, projects and experiences regarding the way to teach/learn Engineering in Europe.

The conference was based on the students and their personal works but a relevant part was devoted to the professional, experts and project leaders, which should enrich the conference with presentations of implemented projects, round tables and discussions regarding the conference main topic.

Student authors has submitted papers related, but not limited to, the following topics:
  • Technology aided learning/teaching systems;
  • Web based learning/teaching systems and e-learning;
  • Traditional systems.

TECHNOLOGY AIDED SYSTEMS
  • Differentiated tools depending on the taught subject;
  • Ludic and cognitive aspects of technology in engineering education;
  • Students-professor and student-student relationships (both from human and didactic side);
  • National regulamentation and comparison among national regulamentations in the use of technology in engineering educational systems;
  • Universities-Labour market connections:
    • Case studies (e.g. EUeducLAB, University of Calabria);
    • Personal experiences.

WEB BASED SYSTEMS AND E-LEARNING
  • Tools and platforms of e-Learning and distance learning;
  • Ludic and cognitive aspects of Internet in engineering education;
  • Students-professor and student-student relationships (both from human and didactic side);
  • National regulamentation and comparison among national regulamentations in the use of Internet in engineering educational systems;
  • Universities-Labour market connections:
    • Case studies and personal experiences.
    • Case studies.
TRADITIONAL SYSTEMS
  • Comparison among different national engineering education systems;
  • Tools (all the necessary equipment for professor and/or students);
  • Students-professor and student-student relationships (both from human and didactic side);
  • Universities-Labour market connections:
    • Case studies;
    • Personal experiences.

Submitted papers has been judged by a commission of experts and professors. During the final ceremony a prize has been assigned to the best three papers.

ASI-UNICAL (Associazione Studenti Ingegneria - Università della Calabria) and University of Calabria have been chosen as first organisers of the annual conference for two main reasons:
  • they showed great skills in the organisation of international events, projecting and achieving 5 EESTEC events, consecutively: 2 exchanges, 2 workshops and 1 Congress;
  • both EESTEC Local Committee and IEEE Student Branch are below the administrative control of ASI-UNICAL.
The idea of the event came out during last EESTEC congress, held at University of Calabria, Cosenza (Italy) between the 9th and the 16th of April 2003.

ASI-UNICAL's organisers invited Basak Yuksel (University of Ankara, Turkey), IEEE Region 8 Student Representative, to the 17th EESTEC Congress. During the Congress, both EESTEC and IEEE introduced themselves and they decided to create a new event, where students belonging to the two organisations can take part presenting their personal works.
